Chippewas set to continue MAC play this week

Mount Pleasant, Mich. -The Central Michigan women’s volleyball team is back on the road this Thursday as they take on Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti and then head home to face the Golden Flashes of Kent State.

The Chippewas (7-9 overall 1-3 MAC) face the Eagles (11-8 overall, 1-2 MAC) to start off the weekend. Eastern is coming off a 0-2 finish in MAC play last weekend, losing to both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

•The Chippewas and Eagles have both played the same four MAC teams thus far, and have the same records through the four games.

• CMU libero Jenna Coates earned her second Defensive Player of the Week award for her efforts in Saturday's loss to Northern Illinois. Coates had a program record 37 digs in four sets for the Chippewas.

• The Eagles bring an 11-8 overall record into their game against Central, and are 3-2 at home this year.

• Eastern Michigan will display one of the MAC's toughest defenses when it plays the Chippewas, as the Eagles lead the conference in digs per set and are 5th in blocks per set. Corynne Smith leads the Eagles in digs with 4.94 per set.

• CMU libero Jenna Coates has had a stellar season thus far, achieving the rank of 7th in the country in digs per set with 5.72. Coates’ season average of 5.72 digs per set is up from last season’s mark of 4.88 digs per set. This pace puts her within striking distance of the number two spot on CMU’s all time leaders in digs for a career, currently held by Ali McCrite (2003-06).

• Moving up on CMU's all time kill list, outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre needs just 31 kills to move past Lindsey Dulude for sixth all time on CMU’s career kill list. She has 229 kills on the season.

• McIntyre is currently averaging 4.09 kills per set, up from her career average of 3.45 kills per set last season. This rate would currently place her at second all time in kills per set average at CMU.

• Senior setter Kelly Maxwell is having a strong season, averaging 11.50 assist per game for the Chippewas.  Her 3,155 career assists ranks her third on CMU’s all time career assists list. Maxwell is currently 15th in the nation in assists per set with 11.5, and leads the Mid-American Conference in that category.

 • CMU faces off against Kent State on Saturday night. The Golden Flashes are 8-9 on the season overall, including a 2-2 conference record.

 • Both the offense and defense for the Golden Flashes rank near the bottom of the MAC this season.
