Chippewas to Battle No.9 Wolverines

Mount Pleasant, Mich.- Central Michigan travels to Ann Arbor to take on the No. 9 Michigan Wolverines. The Chippewas will look to rebound after snapping its seven-game win streak on Sunday, April 21, against Toledo. Central Michigan enters the contest winners of its last 13 of 15 games.

Senior Kara Dornbos extended her win streak to seven consecutive starts. She held Bowling Green to three hits and gave up one earned run on April 19. She struck out six batters on the way to her ninth victory of the season.  Dornbos continued her momentum against Toledo on April 20, pitching back-to-back three-hit performances and tallying her fifth shutout of the season. Dornbos finished the weekend with a 0.88 ERA, lowering her season average to 1.88.

Senior Brogan Darwin has started eight consecutive games, seven in left field, and hit her first homerun of the season, ninth in her career, in game two against Toledo on April 21.

Sophomores CarolAnn Sexauer and Trista Cox continued to swing the bat well, leading the team with a .400 average last weekend and four hits each. Sexauer added three RBIs to her season total, now with a team-high 29.

Michigan enters the contest 39-7 overall and riding a 21-game win streak. Sierra Romero leads the Wolverines with a .406 batting average and 58 RBIs. Seven Michigan starters are hitting over .300 this season, and as a team, averaging .349 with 115 extra base hits. Sara Driesenga leads the pitching staff with a 1.68 ERA and 23 wins this season. Michigan’s last time out, they beat Iowa in a doubleheader, 8-6 and 8-0.

Last season, Central Michigan fell to the Wolverines 10-2 in 6.0 innings in Mount Pleasant. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
