MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan Softball players Kara Dornbos and Macy Merchant were named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team on Tuesday, while junior Cory DeLamielleure, sophomore Trista Cox and sophomore CarolAnn Sexauer were awarded second team honors.
Dornbos led Central Michigan with 12 wins in the circle during the regular season with five shutouts. She has made 23 starts, 16 of which she went for complete games. Dornbos has held conference opponents to a .227 average at the plate and has a season ERA of 2.84. She has earned Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season and has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team. At the beginning of the season, Dornbos was named a Senior CLASS Award candidate, finishing in the top 30. She was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2011 and 2012.
Merchant has been the table setter for Central Michigan all season, leading the MAC with 36 hits in conference play. As the lead off hitter in the lineup, Merchant concluded the MAC regular season batting .474 with 19 runs. She averaged .418 throughout the entire season, driving home 10 runs and scoring 34 more. Merchant’s 20 stolen bases this season has moved her into fourth place in program history with 72 career steals and she led the MAC with 13 against conference opponents. In addition to her base running, Merchant leads the team with 66 hits and is second with three triples. She tied the program record with five hits against Kent State on April 7, and has 21 multi-hit games. Merchant was named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2011.
DeLamielleure was one of three Chippewas to hit six homeruns this season and led the team throughout the regular season with four triples. She has caught 14 runners stealing and picked off five base runners. She hit .242 throughout the season and was third on the team with 29 RBIs. DeLamielleure was named MAC West Division Player of the week after hitting a single, a double, two triples and a homerun in a doubleheader against Detroit on April 3. She was eighth in the MAC with 17 RBIs.
Cox has started every game at third base this season after transferring to Central Michigan from the University of Louisville. She batted .275 this season and was third on the team with eight doubles. Cox hit a total of 13 extra base hits, including three homeruns.
Sexauer has led the Chippewas in RBIs throughout the entire season, finishing the regular season with 32. She was one of two Central Michigan batters to hit over .300, batting .319 over 47 games. Sexauer hit six homeruns this season and led the team with 12 doubles.
Central Michigan will begin the MAC Tournament tomorrow night against the winner of Bowling Green and Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
