Chippewas Get Back to Dual Action at No. 10 Northern Iowa

Mount Pleasant, Mich. -  The Central Michigan wresting program will look to continue its winning ways in Mid-American Conference competition Saturday when it travels to Northern Iowa for the first league meeting between the two teams.

Both teams enter Saturday's dual unscathed in conference competition as CMU is 2-0 with wins over Buffalo and Northern Illinois. The Panthers are 1-0 having defeated Buffalo on Jan. 4, but their second dual versus Eastern Michigan was canceled due to inclement weather last weekend.

Follow the Action: The dual will be streamed live on UNIPanthers.com, while live stats will be provided through TrackWrestling.com. Fans can also follow the Chippewas' official twitter account @CMUWrestling for in-match updates.

MAC Announces January Rankings: The Chippewas are still slight underdogs in the most recent MAC rankings released Thursday morning as they are tied for fourth with 13.0 points. Defending MAC Champion Missouri is the league favorite with 21.0 points, while the Panthers are ranked second with 20.0 points. Senior Joe Roth and junior Mike Ottinger held strong at 133 and 174 pounds as they are both still ranked second, while redshirt freshman Corey Keener and sophomore Zach Horan fell to No. 3 in the conference at 125 and 141 pounds respectively.

Three Medal at Southern Scuffle: Roth, Horan and sophomore Lucas Smith each medaled at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2 to open the 2014 calendar year. Roth posted a 5-2 record to finish fifth at 133 pounds, while Smith also posted a 5-2 mark with a pair of wins over ranked opponents to finish seventh. Horan posted four wins in the tournament and finished tied for seventh.

CMU vs. Northern Iowa: Saturday will mark just the fifth meeting versus the Panthers in program history as the Chippewas hold a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. CMU and UNI last met on Nov. 26, 2011 at the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y., with the Chippewas claiming a 31-6 victory.
