Turner Named MAC Scholar-Athlete and Defensive Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior goalkeeper Stefanie Turner has been recognized for both her scholastics and athletics, being named both the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete and Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday afternoon.

Turner’s (Biology/Biomedical Sciences, 3.85 GPA) prowess in goal allowed the Chippewas to play No. 12 Marquette to a scoreless draw after two overtime periods on Monday. The senior recorded her third shutout of the season, making a career-high 10 saves to keep the offensively potent Golden Eagles, who had been averaging more than three goals per game, off the scoreboard.

She came up clutch in the two overtimes periods, making three saves, including two in the final five minutes of the final overtime session.

The shutout is the seventh of her career.

Turner and the Chippewas will travel to Texas this weekend to play Texas State on Friday at 8 p.m. and Texas A&M Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
