MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan football team reported for preseason training camp on Sunday to officially begin preparations for the highly anticipated 2013 season.
Players moved into the residence hall and were fitted for equipment throughout the day, then attended afternoon and evening meetings.
On Monday, the players will participate in conditioning testing in the morning and then come together for the first official practice of 2013 preseason camp in the afternoon. The Chippewas will work out in shorts for the first two practices, followed by two in shells (helmets and shoulder pads). Full-padded practices will begin later this week.
The Chippewas ended the 2012 season on a four game winning streak, including a victory in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, and followed it up with a productive spring campaign. On offense, 2012 leading rusher Zurlon Tipton and leading receiver Titus Davis are back, along with four key members of the CMU offensive line, including guard Andy Phillips and center Nick Beamish, who each started all 13 games a year ago. Defensively, five of the teamʼs six leading tacklers return, led by linebackers Justin Cherocci (132 tackles) and Shamari Benton (126 tackles).
