Mount Pleasant- Seniors Katie Slaughter, Bailey Brandon, and Stefanie Turner were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NCSAA) 2012 Scholar All-America Team.
Slaughter, a biochemistry major, earned a 3.89 GPA while playing a monumental role on a defensive line that led the MAC in overall shutouts (12) and conference shutouts (7). She was named to the All-MAC First Team, MAC All-Tournament Team, and Academic All-MAC Team.
Brandon is the only Chippewa to be named to the CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic All-America Team multiple times (2011, 2012). As the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, she played alongside Slaughter on the 25 ranked defense in shutout percentage in the country. Brandon maintained a 3.94 GPA as a law and economics major while starting every game this season for the Chippewas.
Turner ranks second in CMU history with 11 shutouts in a single season and third in single season wins with 12. She was named to the All-MAC First Team, Academic All-MAC Team, and the CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic All-District V First Team for her outstanding efforts on the field and in the classroom. The biomedical sciences major earned a 3.85 GPA and only allowed six goals against in conference play, best in the MAC.
Slaughter, Brandon, and Turner join Shay Mannino (2009) and Liesel Toth (2011) as the only Chippewas to receive the NSCAA’s Scholar All-American award. Slaughter is first in CMU history to earn NSCAA Scholar All-American First Team honors.
