Chippewas Earn Eight Academic All-MAC Selections for Third Consecutive Season
Mount Pleasant- The Central Michigan soccer team earned
eight Academic All-Mid-American Conference team selections for the third
consecutive year, the league office announced on Monday.
Bailey Brandon, Estee Outcalt, Katie Slaughter, and Stefanie
Turner were all key components on the Chippewa defense that allowed a
conference-low six goals against in conference play and ranked 25 in the nation
in shutout percentage.
Senior Brandon was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Second Team
Academic All-American, All-MAC First Team, CoSIDA/Capital One Academic
All-District V First Team, the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, and the Dick
Enberg Scholar Athlete of the Year while achieving a 3.94 GPA in the classroom.
Brandon is the first player in Chippewa history to be named to the
CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic All-American Team multiple years (2011, 2012).
Outcalt, a junior majoring in health fitness, was named to
the 2012 MAC All-Tournament Team. She earned a perfect 4.0 GPA while starting
every game this season for the Chippewas.
Slaughter was a 2012 All-MAC First Team and MAC
All-Tournament selection for her outstanding play on the field. The senior from
Cincinnati, Ohio, started 21 of 23 games for the Chippewas and achieved a 3.89
GPA.
Turner earned All-MAC First Team honors this season, along
with being named to the CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic All-District V First Team.
She also was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week and MAC Scholar-Athlete
of the Week after recording a career-high 10 saves at Marquette (9/3). Turner
is a biomedical science major with a 3.85 GPA. She joined fellow senior Brandon
in being named to the 2011 CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic All-American Team last
season.
Senior Autumn Hawkins led the Chippewas with three
game-winning goals and was t-second on the team with four goals. Hawkins was
named All-MAC First Team and earned a 3.74 GPA.
Senior Ashley Mejilla started 20 of 23 matches for the
Chippewas and ranks ninth all-time in Central Michigan history for career goals
(12). The health fitness major earned a 3.80 GPA.
Junior Kaely Schlosser scored three goals this season,
including a game-winner versus Detroit (8/17). She finished t-fifth on the team
in points (8) and achieved a 3.81 GPA.
Senior Laura Twidle, a meteorology major, earned a 3.65 GPA
while starting 19 games for the Chippewas. She was an All-MAC First Team
selection and finished t-first on the team in assists (3). Twidle scored three
goals this season, including two game-winners.
Junior Jennifer Gassman, sophomore Laura Gosse, and junior
Tory Kinniard earned honorable mentions on the 2012 Academic All-MAC Team.
