MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior defender Bailey Brandon has earned CoSIDA/Capital One Second Team All-America honors, CoSIDA announced Thursday, making her the first player in program history to receive multiple All-America awards.
Brandon, a law and economics major with a 3.94 grade point average who earned third-team honors in 2011, is the only player from NCAA Division I schools in the state of Michigan to earn Academic All-America distinction. She is one of just four players of 33 2012 honorees to have earned All-America honors in back-to-back seasons.
Last season Brandon, fellow 2012 senior Stefanie Turner and 2011 senior Bethany Allport became the first Academic All-Americans in program history. Allport was named to the second team, while Brandon and Turner earned third-team honors. Brandon is just the ninth CMU student-athlete to earn multiple Academic All-American honors.
The award is just the latest in her collection of accolades, having already earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-MAC and First Team Academic All-District V honors in 2012. She was also recognized with the CMU Dick Enberg Scholar Athlete of the Year award, and was selected as one of 30 semifinalists nationally in the Senior CLASS Award competition.
In addition to her outstanding work in the classroom, Brandon led a Chippewas defense that finished with the most overall shutouts (12) and conference shutouts (six) of any team in the MAC, while allowing just six goals in conference play. Central’s formidable defense was a primary factor in the team earning the first at-large bid into the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament in the history of the Mid-American Conference.
