Central Michigan University graduate Marcelo Olivarez has served as the Chippewas Director of Basketball Operations since the 2009-10 season. After spending two seasons as the head manager and two additional seasons as Central Michigan's video coordinator, Olivarez was promoted to his current role in the fall of 2009.

Olivarez has also spent a season as an intern with the Los Halcones Rojos de Veracruz, a team in Mexico's professional basketball league, and served as a camp counselor for several Division I programs, including Tennessee, Michigan, Florida, Xavier and CMU.

The Haslett, Mich., native graduated from Haslett High School in 2004, where he earned a letter in basketball.

Olivarez was involved with Haslett High School's student television station, The Vision, which has earned honors as the top high school station in the country.

He is responsible for founding and operating the AAO (Against All Odds) basketball camp, directed at youth in the greater Lansing area. Olivarez is a leading member of Chip  Away Malaria, a student-run organization that has become the national collegiate leader in raising money and awareness about malaria.

He is also on the Board of Directors for the Central Michigan University Sport Management program. The program is the largest in the state of Michigan and one of the leading sport management programs in the country.

Olivarez holds two degrees from CMU – a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Sport Management (2009) and a Master of Arts in Sports Administration (2012). He is married to the former Amy Dowrick.
