MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan gymnastics had a pair of student-athletes honored by the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday as Brittany Petzold was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week while Taylor Noonan was selected the MAC Specialist of the Week.
This is the fourth time that Petzold has been honored by the MAC in her career while this is Noonan's first weekly honor. This is the fourth-straight week that CMU has had a gymnast honored by the conference as Emily Heinz was named Gymnast of the Week (1/14), and Halle Moraw (1/21) and Kirsten Petzold (1/28) were named Specialist of the Week.
Petzold won bars and finished second on vault as Central Michigan posted a 196.600, the fourth-best score in program history, to win the Michigan vs. Illinois Invite over the weekend. Petzold matched her personal best to win bars with a 9.875 and scored a 9.850 on vault for a runner-up finish. She also competed on floor for the first time in three weeks because of an ankle injury and posted a top 8 finish with a 9.775.
Noonan matched a pair of personal bests on beam and bars in Central Michigan’s victory at the Michigan vs. Illinois Invite as the Chippewas posted a 196.600, the fourth-best score in school history and the best in the MAC this season. Noonan matched the MAC-high this season on beam with a 9.925 to win the event. She also posted a 9.775 on bars for a top 10 finish on the event. She was also named the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week today.
The Chippewas head out on the road for the first time this season for a pair of meets. CMU competes at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 7, and at Bowling Green on Sunday, Feb. 9.
