Soccer Starts Road Swing with Matches at West Virginia and Pittsburgh
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan soccer team will kick off a three-week long road swing on Friday when it faces West Virginia (1-0-1) on Friday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. and Pittsburgh (1-0-0) on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m. 

• CMU (0-0-1) began its 2013 season under first-year head coach Peter McGahey with a 2-2 draw against Detroit at home on August 25. 

Laura Gosse and Jennifer Gassman lead the scoring attack for Central Michigan both tallying a goal each in the season opener. Morgan Wilcoxon and Taylor Potts recorded assists on the scoring plays.

• CMU outshot Detroit 23-11, including 5-1 in the two overtime periods, and had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. 

• West Virginia is ranked 10th in Soccer America's Top 25 after earning a 1-0-1 result at the Penn State Invitational. The Mountaineers tied with the Nittany Lions 2-2 on Aug. 23 and defeated Syracuse 2-1 on Aug. 25. 

• Mountaineer Goalkeeper Sara Keane was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week after matching a career-high eight saves against 2012 national runnner-up Penn State. 

• Pittsburgh won their season opener 1-0 at Duquesne on August 25. The Panthers were lead by Goalkeeper Nicole D'Agostino, who recorded five saves. D'Agostino ranked third in the Big East Conference with 87 saves in 2012. 

• The Chippewas trip to Morgantown begins a six-game road campaign. Next week, CMU visits Portland, Ore. to take on Portland and Washington. Central returns home on Friday, Sept. 20 against Dayton.
