MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan sophomore Crystal Bradford has been named one of 52 All-Region nominees for the 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
Bradford was one of six players selected from Region 4 that make up the 52 candidates from across the country. The selection committee will select the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team from the pool of players.
The sophomore is fresh off a Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP performance in which she helped the Chippewas earn their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1984. She was just one of three players in Division I to lead her team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals during the regular season and has posted 14 double doubles in her second year in the Maroon and Gold.
Bradford currently leads the Chippewas with 15.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 2.2 steals per game. She is just five points away from becoming the first player in program history to score 500 points and pull down 300 rebounds and is just the fourth player in program history to make at least 200 field goals in a single season.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 6, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in New Orleans Arena.
