CMU Hoops Quick Hitterst
•CMU is 9-0 in conference play for the first time since 1983-84 when it went 18-0.
•The Chippewas nine-game winning streak is the third longest in program history.
• Junior Jas’Mine Bracey averaged 21.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game last week en route to being named MAC West Player of the Week.
•The Chippewas dropped both meetings to the Cardinals last season, including a 68-61 loss in Muncie on February 7.
Bracey on the Block
Junior Jas’Mine Bracey was named the MAC West Player of the Week for the first time in her career Monday after averaging 21.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game last week. Bracey has eight double-doubles on the season and is one of just three players averaging double figures in scoring and rebounding in league play.
Three different players posted double-doubles last Thursday night versus Eastern Michigan, led by junior Jas’Mine Bracey’s career-highs of 25 points and 16 rebounds. Crystal Bradford (16 points/17 rebounds) and Taylor Johnson (15 points/11 rebounds) also joined the double-double party.
Cleaning the Glass
Central Michigan is now 11-1 this season when leading its’ opponent in rebounds after holding a 64-48 edge over Eastern Michigan Thursday night. The team’s 64 rebounds marked the fifth most in a single game in CMU history.
30 Years Later
CMU is off to its first 9-0 start in MAC play since the Chippewas went a perfect 18-0 during the 1983-84 season. The nine-game winning streak is also the longest since the same season when the Chippewas won a program-record 26 games.
Triple Tamm Time
Junior cracked CMU’s top 10 list for career three-point field goals last week and now ranks 10th all time with 103 triples. Tamm ranks first in the MAC with a 44.0 percent (44-for-100) and has hit at least two triples in 11 contest this season.
Senior Niki DiGuilio continues to lead the MAC and ranks third in the country with 3.4 field goals per game. DiGuilio has made a three in 26 straight contests and has hit at least one three in 82 percent of her career games (98-of-119).
They Did What?
Central Michigan matched a program record last Saturday when it scored 68 points in the first half at Western Michigan. The Chippewas went on to eclipse the century mark for the third time this season, matching the third most points in program history with their 113-87 victory.
Starting Five Shine
The Chippewas’ starting five of Green, Tamm, DiGuilio, Bradford and Bracey scored 99 of the team’s 113 points last Saturday as all five players scored in double figures. DiGuilio led the way with a career-high 27 points, while Tamm posted her first career 20-point contest.
Welcome to the Club
Senior Taylor Johnson became the third player this season to join Central Michigan’s 1,000-point club, joining senior Niki DiGuilio and junior Crystal Bradford. This marks the first time in program history that the CMU lineup has featured three 1,000-point scorers in the same season.
Junior Jessica Green is also on pace to score her 1,000th career point this season, needing to average just 6.3 points per game over CMU’s final 10 guaranteed games. CMU would be just the 10th program in NCAA history to have four different 1,000-point scorers on the same roster should Green accomplish the feat.
Senior Niki DiGuilio became the leader of men and women at Central Michigan for most three-point field goals made versus Toledo, passing former CMU men’s star Robbie Harman’s record of 233. DiGuilio now has 260 triples in her career and is on pace to become just the third player in MAC history to eclipse 300 career triples.
Three-Point Streaks to Watch
The Chippewas have made at least one three-point field goal in all 212 games coached under head coach Sue Guevara. DiGuilio also enters Saturday’s game with streak of 26 consecutive games with at least one made shot from behind the arc.
No team in the country played a non-conference schedule as tough as Central Michigan according to the Jeff Sagarin/CBN Women’s College Basketball Rankings. CMU played three top-25 opponents, while 10 of its’ 12 games were against 2013 postseason teams.
Chippewas Tabbed Favorites
Central Michigan was a unanimous choice to win the Mid-American Conference West title and received nine of 12 votes to repeat at the MAC Tournament by the coaches in the leagues’ preseason poll. CMU returns 10 letterwinners and three starters from last season’s MAC Tourney championship squad.
