Keith Gilmore begins his first season as a member of the CMU football coaching staff. Gilmore coaches the defensive linemen and is the program’s recruiting coordinator.
“I’m excited to have Keith back on my coaching staff,” said head coach Brian Kelly. “He is a veteran college coach who has great ties in the Detroit area having played there. He brings a wealth of knowledge to this position and will do a fine job coordinating our recruiting effort.”
Gilmore arrives at CMU following four seasons as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Howard University. Gilmore also was the defensive line coach for the Bison, who led the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in total defense in 2004 (297.5 ypg) and 2005 (255.7 ypg).

From there, he served stints at Michigan State (1988), Northern Michigan (1989-90), and Grand Valley (1991-94) before returning to Wayne State for the 1994 season. Gilmore has experience in the MAC, having spent the 1995-97 seasons at Eastern Michigan as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach.
Gilmore graduated from Wayne State with a bachelor of science degree in recreation administration. He earned his master of arts degree in sport administration from Michigan State.
