CMU Aims to Stay Atop MAC West Standings Against Miami and Ball State

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan will conclude its three game road stint on Friday when they travel to Miami (3 p.m.) on October 25 before returning home on Sunday to take on Ball State (3 p.m.) on October 27 on Senior Day at the CMU Soccer Complex.

• After CMU’s double-overtime thrilling win at Buffalo on Sunday, the Chippewas clinched a postseason spot in the 2013 MAC Tournament, which starts on November 3.

• Central Michigan (6-9-1, 6-2-0) is currently tied for first in the MAC West with Eastern Michigan (9-6-1, 6-2-0) with three games remaining on the regular season schedule.

• Central Michigan improved its shutout streak to four consecutive games with a 2-0 victory at Akron on October 18 and a 1-0 double overtime win at Buffalo on October 20. The last time Central Michigan held its opponents scoreless in four consecutive games was last season when the Chippewas finished the regular with two shutouts and added two more in the 2012 MAC Tournament.

• Junior goalkeeper Grace Labrecque played every minute in goal for both wins over the weekend, recording three saves at Akron and three saves at Buffalo. After the shutout win against Buffalo on Sunday, Labrecque became third all-time among goalkeepers in program history in shutouts with nine, passing Kari Alexander (2000-2003).

• Laura Gosse scored the game winning goals in both victories over the weekend, improving her consecutive games with a goal streak to four. Gosse broke the scoreless tie of the second half at Akron when she headed in a shot just over the goalie's reach after receiving a corner from senior defender Estee Outcalt. Gosse added her second game winning goal of the weekend after an Outcalt free kick found senior Tory Kinniard who kept the ball in play, ultimately finding Gosse who delivered the score.

• Gosse leads the team this season with points (11), goals (5) and game winning goals (3). She has the most career goals among current players with 13 total.

• Miami (8-6-2) currently leads the MAC East standings with a 5-1-2 conference record. The Redhawks won both of their games at home in shutout efforts, defeating Northern Illinois 2-0 on Friday, Oct. 18 and Toledo 2-0 on Sunday, Oct. 20. Miami has not allowed a goal in five consecutive games. The last time Miami played Central Michigan was in the 2012 MAC Tournament Championship when the Redhawks defeated the Chippewas 2-1 in Oxford, Ohio.

• Miami is led offensively by the three-headed scoring attack consisting of junior forward Kelsey Dingles (6 goals, 5 assists), senior midfielder Kayla Zakrzewski (5 goals, six assists) and senior midfielder Katy Dosh (6 goals, 2 assists). Dingles was awarded MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after scoring three of Miami’s four goals scored over the weekend. Dosh was also named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on September 16 after scoring three of the team’s six goals against Milwaukee and Purdue.

• Senior goalkeeper Allison Norenberg has started 15 of 16 games for the Redhawks this year in net. Norenberg has posted a 7-6-2 record in goal this season, recording a MAC-best eight total shutouts this year.

• Ball State (9-4-3, 4-4-2 MAC) tied both opponents during its home stand this weekend in Muncie. The Cardinals tied with Toledo 2-2 on October 18 and posted the same result against Northern Illinois on October 20. The last time Ball State played Central Michigan was when the Chippewas shutout the Cardinals 2-0 on October 21, 2012.

• Senior midfielder Michelle Blok and freshman forward Kelsey Wendlant lead the Cardinal scoring attack this season with four goals each. Blok was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 26 after she scored two goals in five minutes in BSU’s season opener against Northern Iowa.

• Ball State has split starts in goal this season between senior Layne Schramm and freshman Brooke Dennis. Both goalies have recorded similar numbers with Schramm posting a 5-2-1 record with 34 total saves and four shutouts, while Brooke has tallied a 4-2-2 record with 41 total saves and three shutouts. The goalkeepers split starts this weekend with Schramm playing in net against Northern Illinois and Dennis starting against Toledo.

• The Chippewas will finish their regular season schedule at home when the Bowling Green Falcons travel to Mount Pleasant at 3 p.m. on Halloween afternoon.
