MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan University Director of Athletics Dave Heeke announced today that men's basketball coach Ernie Zeigler will not be retained after six seasons as head coach.

"After a thorough review of the program, a change in leadership is needed in order to improve the overall performance of the program," said Heeke. "I appreciate Coach Zeigler's commitment to Central Michigan University and his hard work on and off the court. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."

Zeigler is released from the final two years of his contract, which was extended in April 2010 following his winningest season (15-15). That season was followed by a 10-21 mark in 2010-11 and an 11-21 record this year. He compiled a career record of 75-111 (.403). Zeigler will be paid $368,437 according to the buyout clause in his contract.

"Our goal on the court is to compete for MAC championships, and we will begin a national search immediately to find the best coach for Central Michigan University," said Heeke.
