Became the first three-time Division I All-America in CMU wrestling history... placed third at the NCAA championships in 2000 (174 pounds), fourth in 1998 (158 pounds) and seventh in 1999 (174 pounds)... won three MAC individual titles in two different weight classes - 150 pounds in 1997 and 174 pounds in 1999 and 2000... named both MAC Wrestler of the Year and MAC Championships Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2000... won MAC Freshman of the Year honors in 1997... a member of two MAC championship teams and three teams that won MAC Tournament titles... led CMU to three top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a fifth-place team finish in 1998... compiled a career record of 104 wins, a .776 winning percentage (104-30) and 23 career pins, all of which ranked among the top 10 in school history... notched a pin in just 16 seconds in 2000 which ranked ninth-fastest in school history... finished as the MAC runner-up the only year he did not win a MAC title, placing behind eventual national champion Dwight Gardner of Ohio; Cunningham went on to finish fourth at nationals that year after moving up a weight class from his freshman year... went 25-11 as a freshman, 25-5 as a sophomore, 28-8 as a junior and 26-6 as a senior... named MAC Wrestler of the Week three times during career... qualified for NCAAs all four years... named to the Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie team in 1997... served in the United States Marine Corp from 2002-07... his older brother, Casey, was inducted into the CMU Hall of Fame in 2009...
