Schuitema replaces Plas Presnell, who retired this past January after 31 seasons at Central Michigan. Schuitema’s hiring is a part of an overall reorganization of the football operations department. There is an additional position that has been created to work along side Schuitema with a primary focus on recruiting and player development.
“Reed will bring a lot of experience to this role,” Enos said. “When I spoke with the coaches he has worked for, each one raved about his strong work ethic and loyalty to the program. The director of operations is a critical position for CMU football and I think Reed has the ability to make an immediate impact on our program.”
Schuitema comes to CMU from fellow MAC school, Miami University, where he was the director of football operations for the last three years. As a member of Don Treadwell’s staff, Schuitema handled many things on-and-off the field including team travel, camps, special events, game-day operations and recruiting.
Schuitema came to Miami from Michigan State, where he served as MSU’s graduate assistant in football operations. With the Spartans, he helped with team travel, training table, recruiting visits, ticket operations, youth camps and bowl game preparation.
During his time as an undergraduate at MSU, Schuitema worked as a student manager for the Michigan State men’s basketball team, helping with the day-to-day operations of the program.
A native of Muskegon, Mich., Schuitema earned his bachelor’s in Human Resuorce Management from Michigan State in 2009 and his master’s from MSU in 2010 with a degree in Sports Administration. He attended Muskegon’s Mona Shores High School, serving as captain of the football team and also played hockey and tennis.
