Men's Basketball Opens 2013-14 Season vs. Manchester

MOUNT PLEASANT – Year two of Keno Davis' tenure at Central Michigan University officially begins on Friday, Nov. 8, when the Chippewas open the regular season by hosting Manchester in McGuirk Arena at 2:30 p.m.

The Chippewas return eight lettermen and four starters off a team that became only the second in the program’s Division I era to win seven non-conference games. Leading the way is 2012-13 MAC All-Freshman team selection Chris Fowler, who broke the program’s freshman assist record last year.

Also back are sophomore forwards Blake Hibbitts, who averaged 8.9 points per game and led CMU with 66 three-pointers and John Simons, who topped the Chippewas in rebounds with 151 in addition to veteran forward Zach Saylor, who was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA in the offseason.

CMU picked up an overtime victory over Lake Superior State last Manday, 92-88, in its lone exhibition game of the season.

The Spartans (0-0) will be making their 2013-14 season debut on Friday under 10-year head coach Brad Nadborne.

Central Michigan will spend much of the early portion of its schedule at home, providing fans ample opportunity to see the Chippewas in action before the holidays and the beginning of the MAC schedule. Including the exhibition game versus Lake Superior State on October 28, CMU will play seven games in McGuirk Arena before the month of December and 16 in total this season. Included in the early stretch, CMU will host a tournament featuring games against Austin Peay, Montana State and Cal State Northridge from November 21-23.

 • QUOTABLE

• "I think Chris Fowler is much improved and that’s saying something after the season he had last year. He works as hard as anybody I have ever coached. As a result, he is becoming more of an all-around player." (Keno Davis following CMU's Oct. 28 exhibition game versus LSSU)
