MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan track and field program has released its schedule for the 2013-14 indoor and outdoor season under new Director of Track and Field Mark Guthrie.
"This year’s meet schedule utilizes the regular season competitions to position the student-athlete to be at their best when the indoor and outdoor championship season arrives," said Guthrie. "The schedule provides growth opportunities and challenges for both our developmental as well as our higher end athlete."
Central Michigan will open the indoor season on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Holiday Classic in Saginaw.
The Chippewas will play host to its sole home meet of the season at the Jack Skoog Open on Jan. 17, held at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track at the Indoor Athletic Complex.
Select distance runners will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 24-25. Central Michigan will compete on back-to-back weekends against MAC foes at the Compass Cup in Ypsilanti on Feb. 1, and in the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio Feb. 7-8.
The Chippewas will compete at the Grand Valley State Big Meet Elite in Allendale on Feb. 14-15. The squad then travel to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend Ind. and the Silverston Invitational in Ann Arbor in its final preparations both the MAC Indoor meet.
The MAC Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 28-March 1 in Kent, Ohio while the NCAA Indoor Championships are in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 8-9.
Central Michigan will open outdoor competition at the Louisville Open in Louisville, Ky. on March 28-29. The Chippewas then travel to East Lansing on April 4-5 for the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invite.
On April 11-12 the Chippewas will compete at the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky with the squad headed to the Al Owens Invitational in Allendale on April 19.
Select throwers will represent the Chippewas at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif. on April 24-26, while the rest of the team will compete at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays.
CMU closes out the regular season with the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 3 and the the Len Paddock Invitational in Ann Arbor on May 9-10.
CMU's postseason competition begins with the MAC Outdoor Championship in Athens, Ohio, running May 15-17. Those who qualify will compete in the NCAA East Prelims on May 29 in Jacksonville, Fla. with the NCAA National Championships set for June 11 in Eugene, Ore.
