A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Santos brings four years of college playing experience, along with the experience from the Gold Medal Squared Elite volleyball training program, to the state of Michigan. Santos also had the luxury of being trained by Marv Dunphy who was the 1988 gold medal coach for Team USA.

"This is my first time at this level so it has been challenging," said Santos. "I am working on making the transition from the men's game to the women's. I push the girls harder with their intensity but I feel they understand, and their progress has been great. I am happy to be here at CMU and lucky to be a part of such a great coaching staff."

Santos came to the U.S. on the possibility of a volleyball scholarship at Brigham Young University. He played there for a season appearing in 73 games. He averaged 1.63 kills per game and posted the team's third best hitting percentage at .402. He was also second on the team in block assists with 86. After a season at BYU he transferred to Pepperdine University.

While at Pepperdine he started two seasons at middle blocker. He averaged 2.21 kills and 1.27 blocks per set while hitting .420 in 203 games. He ended his career ninth on Pepperdine's all-time list for blocks per game. He graduated in 2010 with degrees in psychology and sociology.

At Central Michigan Santos will serve as the middle blocker coach.

"Rodnei has brought a lot of new ways to think and say things to our players," said Olson. "It is nice to have him handle the middle blockers and train them at such a high level. His demand for high intensity and expectations has really helped improve our program."
