MOUNT PLEASANT -After nearly tying a school record for digs in a match, junior Kelly Maxwell has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Maxwell dished out a career-high 79 assists in Saturday night's five-set win over Ball State, orchestrating an offense that saw three different players record season highs in kills. The performance followed a 46-assist effort the night before in a sweep of Toledo as the junior averaged an astounding 15.62 digs per set over the weekend.
The junior dished out more assists than any player during conference play, finishing the MAC regular season with 739 assists (11.92 per set). The award is the second of the season for Maxwell.
The Chippewas earned the No. 6 seed in the MAC Tournament and will play No. 3 seed Western Michigan in the opening round Friday at 1:30 p.m.
