Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Central Michigan senior Jenna Coates was named the Mid-American Conference West Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Coates had arguably the best weekend of her career as she posted back-to-back 30-plus dig contests, including a program record 37 digs versus Northern Illinois Saturday night. The 37 digs set a new program-best mark in a four-set rally match. The performance came a day after the senior posted 30 digs at rival Western Michigan. In total, Coates finished the weekend with 67 digs (8.38/set), moving into first in the MAC with a 7.21 digs/set in conference play.
The 37 digs also marked the most by any player in the MAC this season as Coates now has two of the top three performances in the conference this season.
Coates and the Central Michigan volleyball program will continue MAC play this Thursday at in-state foe Eastern Michigan before returning home for a cross-divisional contest versus Kent State Saturday at 7 p.m.
