Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Coming off its first Mid-American Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly 30 years, expectations are even higher for the Central Michigan women's basketball program.
The Chippewas began their preparations to return to the NCAA Tournament Tuesday morning with their first official practice of the 2013-14 campaign.
"It felt really good to be back in the gym with all of them," head coach Sue Guevara said. "I think it was very competitive. We got up and down and I'm going to have some really tough decisions to make and its only the first day."
The Maroon and Gold return three starters from last season's championship squad, including reigning MAC Tournament MVP and All-MAC First Team selection Crystal Bradford. The junior spent the summer competing internationally with the USA World University Games team, helping the Red, White and Blue capture gold with a 16-point performance in the championship game versus Russia.
CMU will be looking for its fourth-straight 20-plus win season under Guevara and fourth-straight trip to a postseason tournament. The Chippewas appeared in back-to-back WNIT Tournaments prior to earning a trip to the big dance last season.
