MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan sophomore ace Jordan Foley has been named the Mid-American Conference West Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Foley needed just 6.2 innings to set a new career high in strikeouts Friday versus Northern Illinois, fanning 12 huskies en route to improving to 5-1 on the season. The sophomore needed just five innings to strikeout 10 batters and lowered his league-best earned run average to 0.82 as each of his three runs given up were unearned in the 6-3 victory.
A native of The Colony, Texas, Foley has not given up more than one earned run in any of his eight starts this season and currently leads the MAC with 63 strikeouts. He ranks 11th in the country in ERA, 14th in strikeouts and 33rd in strikeouts per nine innings (10.37).
Foley also earned MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 26 after a strong showing versus Western Kentucky in which he carried a no hitter into the fifth inning and struck out a then career-high eight batters.
The Chippewas and Foley will resume MAC play in Muncie, Ind., this weekend for a three-game series versus Ball State.
