Chippewas head to MSU, Florida

Mount Pleasant - The Central Michigan track and field team heads to the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University and the Florida Relays at the University of Florida-Gainsville this weekend, April 5 and 6.

“We are focusing on getting our athletes MAC marks, and get them in position for the MAC meet. Maddie Ribant will be opening up in the steeplechase, as well as our other distance runners. There are a lot of things we are starting to ramp up to prepare,” said director of track and field Willie Randolph.

Senior Maddie Ribant, 3000m-steeplechase school record holder, will be competing her in first steeplechase race of the year. She will be leading the distance squad as they attend the Florida Relays.

The distance races will start Friday at 8 p.m. with the women’s 1500m race, followed by the men’s 1500m, the men’s and women’s steeple chase, and the men’s and women’s 5000m race.

The rest of the Chippewas will be running, jumping and throwing at the MSU Spartan Invitational.

The field events start at 9:30 a.m. and the running events will start at 10:30 a.m.
