MOUNT PLEASANT -- Nate Theunissen drove a 1-2 pitch into deep center field for a pinch-hit RBI double to give Central Michigan a 1-0 win over Bowling Green in walk-off fashion at Theunissen Stadium on Tuesday.
The Chippewas (21-20) enjoyed another strong pitching performance from Bryce Morrow , who tossed 8 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to stiffle the Falcons' (15-22) offense.
Neither side was able to take advantage of earlly scoring chances. CMU drew four walks in the first three innings but couldn't come up with the big hit to break the scoreless tie, and BGSU couldn't take advantage of a one-out double in the fourth by Jon Berti.
After another failed sacrifice for the Falcons in the ninth, Morrow was lifted after retiring Berti on a soft pop up for the second out in the inning in favor of Mike Nixon , who erased the only batter he faced to pick up the win (1-0).
Jordan Dean walked leading off the ninth and stole second to move into scoring position. After showing bunt earlier in the at-bat, Theunissen blasted the Ross Gerdeman offering over the head of center fielder Andrew Kubuski for the winning run.
CMU travels to face Oakland on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
