Sabol's Shutout Gives Chippewas Series Win Over Bobcats

ATHENS, Ohio -- Jake Sabol put together his first career complete game shutout and Jordan Dean had four hits to pace the offense as Central Michigan claimed the series victory against Ohio with a 9-0 decision in the finale of the Mid-American Conference series at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Chippewas (12-17, 2-4 MAC) scored in every inning except the seventh and Sabol held the Bobcats (14-13, 2-4 MAC) to just one runner in scoring position over the first six innings.

A sacrifice fly by Matt Faiman opened the scoring in the first and an RBI single by Brendan Emmett made it 2-0 in the second.

The first of two more doubles on the day for Sam Russell scored Jordan Dean in the third and Faiman's second home run of the season made it 4-0 after four innings of play.

Scott Phillion blasted his first home run of the year, a solo shot, in the fifth and Russell's second double plated Faiman and Dean in the sixth. Eric Wrozek added an RBI double in the eighth and a ninth inning sacrifice fly by Tom Howard capped the scoring.

Sabol (2-2) scattered six hits and a walk while fanning four in his first complete game since Feb. 28, 2010 against St. Mary's. Jason Moulton (1-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Dean led all players with four hits and scored twice, Emmett finished the contest 3-for-5 with an RBI, Russell drove in three and Faiman knocked in a pair.

CMU returns home to face Michigan at Theunissen Stadium on April 6, its first home contest since March 15 due to winter weather.
