Central Michigan Swept on Day Two by UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Central Michigan softball team dropped two games to UT Arlington, 9-3 and 2-1, Saturday on the second day of the UTA Maverick Invitational.

Both teams were held scoreless through two innings, until the Mavericks (5-3) exploded with a four-run inning in the third.

The Chippewas (4-4) added a run of their own in the fourth when sophomore Katelyn Rentschler brought in teammate CarolAnn Sexauer off a double down the infield line.

The Mavericks answered back adding two more runs to put them on top 6-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Trista Cox singled to center field bringing in Lauren Bowman from third base. That would be the lone run in the inning for the Chippewas and they trailed, 6-2, going into the sixth.

The Mavericks put their stamp on the game after scoring three more runs in their final at bat of the game in the bottom of the sixth, taking a commanding 9-2 lead over CMU.

The Maroon and Gold scored a single run in the seventh inning after Evelyn Lorimer got things started with a double to left center. After advancing to third, Lorimer scored off Chelsea DeLamielleure’s double to right center.

The Chippewas would fail to score the remainder of the inning, leaving two on base, and dropped the game to the Mavericks, 9-3.

Central Michigan used four pitchers throughout the game, giving up a combined 10 hits while striking out four.

In the second match-up between the Mavericks and the Chippewas, CMU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning after a solo blast to left center from Chelsea DeLamielleure.

The two squads remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Mavericks took advantage of their last at bat of the game, scoring two runs in the final inning.

The Chippewas will close out the tournament on Sunday at 10 a.m. with a rematch against South Dakota State.
