Freshman Robert Greenman helped open the scoring for the gold team with a double down the left field line that set up a run coming in off of a throwing error. Cody Leichman, Heeke and Greenman each added one RBI.
Zach Arthur scored two runs, one of them helped to extend the Gold team’s lead with a three-run ninth inning.
Maroon starter Taylor Lehnertt matched Foley’s day with six innings pitched allowing two runs on two hits and striking out eight. Blake Hibbitts was charged with the loss.
Colton Bradley kept the Maroon team in the game with his two timely hits, one of them producing a run.
The Chippewas will be back in action with game two of the Fall World Series, Saturday October 5th. First pitch will be at noon. Don’t forget there will be a free picnic to all fans, friends, and family directly after the game.
