Central Michigan Responds to Ohio's Early Pressure, Wins 2-1

ATHENS, Ohio - Central Michigan concluded its successful Ohio road trip, snapping the Ohio Bobcats six-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 rally on Sunday afternoon. The win improves CMU to a 2-0 in the MAC after defeating Kent State 1-0 on Friday.

“I think our defensive performance was a collective effort,” said CMU head coach Peter McGahey. “We are starting to see two center backs in Emily Basten and Kaylin Hoomaian start to really emerge as leaders as their early season experience is starting to pay off.”

• Central Michigan held Ohio to just two shots on goal and seven total shots, a season low an opponent

• Ohio missed an early first half opportunity as junior defender Tonya Frasik’s penalty kick in the 13th minute was stopped by senior goalkeeper Grace Labrecque.

• Labrecque appeared in her fourth consecutive start, upping her record to 2-0. She recorded the against the Golden Flashes in CMU's MAC opener.

• The Bobcats found the back of the net first when junior forward Liz Finley found net from inside the box in the 19th minute. The score was Finley’s second goal of the season. Freshman forward Alexis Milesky was awarded with the assist on the goal, delivering a 30-yard pass to Finley to set up the score.

• Sophomore midfielder Kaelyn Korte responded to the Bobcat score just two minutes later when she netted a shot from the middle of the box off a Laura Gosse pass. The goal marked Korte's first career goal in a Chippewas uniform.

• Junior midfielder Emily Cooksey added to CMU’s late first half momentum when she scored a highlight reel upper 90 strike from 30-yards out. Cooksey leads the team in scoring with two goals this season. Freshman forward Angie Mann earned the first assist of her career on the play.

• The Chippewas will begin a four-game home stint when they take on rival Western Michigan on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. at the CMU Soccer Complex.
