Sophomore Milica Kulidzan and freshman Cole Walderzak led the Chippewas at the 28th Annual Toledo Invitational. Kulidzan won the women's javelin with a mark of 140-10, while Walderzak qualified for the MAC Championships in his second event with a throw of 179-08 in the hammer throw.
Throwers Lead at Toledo Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Central Michigan track and field team sent members of its team to the 28th Annual Toledo Invitational this weekend, April 2 and 3, to obtain more automatic qualifiers leading up to the 2013 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend.

The throwing squad led the way by winning both men’s and women’s javelin. Freshman Brandon McCleese took the men’s competition with a mark of 174-02. Sophomore Milica Kuldizan won the women’s with a throw of 140-10, a season-best mark. Freshman Kyleigh Young took third with a mark of 135-00.

Freshman Cole Walderzak took sixth in the men’s hammer with a MAC qualifying mark of 179-08, a personal best. Junior Calvin Jackson followed in seventh with a throw of 173-04.

Walderzak threw for 162-11, taking fifth in the discus, an event he previously qualified in.

In the women’s discus, freshman Devene Brown took third with a throw of 165-07. Sophomore Kyla Walworth took fifth with a mark of 154-10, and senior Kayla Brindley, with a career-best throw, qualified for the MAC Championships with a mark of 154-02. Walworth and Brown already qualified earlier in the season.

Winning the women’s high jump was freshman Marielle McBeam with a mark of 5-07. Tying for fourth place were junior Samantha Stein and senior Emily Dienhart with a mark of 5-03.

On the men’s side, freshman Matt Mueller took second with a height of 6-02.75.

On the track, freshman Ziemowit Dutkiewicz ran a qualifying time of 53.96 for a sixth-place finish in the 400m hurdles.

In the 400m race, freshman Clinton Cargill finished fourth with a season-best 49.70.
