MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan redshirt freshman Neal Jacobs has been named the Mid-American Conference West Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday evening.
Jacobs hit a pair of home runs and drove in 10 last weekend at Marshall, leading the Chippewas to a series victory be taking three of the four games. Jacobs carried the lumber in the opening doubleheader of the series Friday, hitting a home run in each game and recording 7 RBI to complete the doubleheader sweep. His two-run home run in game one put the Chippewas in front for good, while his three-run home run in game two capped a five-run inning that sealed the victory.
Overall, Jacobs batted .353 (6-for-17) with three runs and a slugging percentage of .706 on the weekend.
The Avon, Ohio native will look to carry his hot swing into the Chippewas' MAC opener versus Buffalo this weekend. The series is set to begin Friday afternoon at 3 at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y.
