BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Central Michigan fell to Western Kentucky 12-6 in game two of a three-game series. Sophomore centerfielder Nick Regnier led the Chippewas with three hits and three RBIs.
Central Michigan (2-4) trailed 5-6 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Hilltoppers strung together five unanswered runs. Ryan Messex singled to left for Western Kentucky to bring in Ryan Huck from third. Matthew Paculan made the score 9-5 in favor of the Hilltoppers with a two run single.
Western Kentucky kept the momentum in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs. Junior pitcher Kenton San Miguel came in to relieve freshman Taylor Lehnert on the mound for the Chippewas, but walked three of the first four batters faced. Scott Wilcox scored on a wild pitch from third, and Anderson Miller singled to bring in Devin Kelly and advance Huck to second.
After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first, the Chippewas retook the lead in the second with a sophomore Tyler Huntey sac fly to score freshman Neal Jacobs, and an RBI single to center by Noel Santos to score freshman Morgan Oliver.
Central Michigan lost its lead in the fourth inning. Huntey walked on a 3-1 count and advanced to second on a balk. Huntey put Central Michigan on top 5-4 thanks to an error at first base off a hit by Santos. Western Kentucky answered though in the bottom of the fourth with two runs.
Pat Kaminska (0-2) got the start and pitched 3.1 innings, giving up nine hits and six runs. Taylor Lehnert pitched 1.2 innings, surrendering three hits and three earned runs. San Miguel faced seven batters on one inning of work, and Jimmy McNamara gave up two hits and one run in two innings.
The Chippewas close the three-game series at Western Kentucky Sunday, Feb. 24. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
