Three Chippewas Named to Summer League All-Star Teams

MOUNT PLEASANT - Three Central Michigan baseball players have been named all-stars in their respective summer leagues.

Relief pitcher Dietrich Enns will play for the West in the 2011 Cape Cod League All-Star Game, while infielder Nate Theunissen was a member of the South team for the Northwoods League All-Star Game and pitcher Jon Weaver was part of the North team in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game.

The Cape Cod League All-Star Game is Friday, July 29 at Fenway Park, home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox. Enns will represent the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, for whom he is 3-1 with three saves and a 0.70 earned-run average in 14 appearances out of the bullpen this summer. Enns has surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out 17 batters in 25-2/3 innings pitched.

For CMU in 2011, Enns was 6-1 with six saves and a 2.83 ERA in 19 relief appearances. He struck out 48 hitters in 41-1/3 innings pitched.

Theunissen, meanwhile, was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs batted in in the South's 6-3 loss in the 2011 Northwoods League All-Star Game last week. Theunissen is hitting a team-leading .340 for the Madison Mallards this summer. He leads the team in hits (52), home runs (9) and RBIs (30) and is second in runs (25) and tied for second in walks (20).

Theunissen hit .278 with nine doubles, five home runs and 33 runs batted in for CMU in 2011. He was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Tournament Team after hitting a team-leading .500 (8-for-16) and slugging a team-high 1.313 in CMU's four tournament games. Four of his eight hits were home runs, and he drove in a team-leading seven runs while scoring a team-high tying five runs in the tournament.

Weaver, a member of the Lima Locos, was part of the North team that dropped a 7-1 decision to the South in the GLSCL All-Star Game at Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds. In five starts for the Locos this summer, Weaver is 2-1 with a 3.14 ERA.

Weaver appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen for CMU in 2011, posting a 2-1 record with a 5.18 ERA as a middle reliever.
