MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan senior right-hander Jake Sabol has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week.

Sabol threw a complete game, allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out seven and walking none, in the Chippewas' MAC West Division title clinching 5-2 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Sabol retired the game's final 10 hitters and sat the Eagles down in order in six different innings. Sabol was one strike away from his third complete-game shutout of the season; in the sixth inning he gave up a run-scoring single on a 1-2 pitch with two outs, and a second run scored when an error extended the inning.

Sabol also started the Chippewas' midweek game against Oakland, allowing one hit and striking out one in one inning of work on a planned staff day for the Chippewas.

Sabol earns the conference's weekly honor for the second time this season. Four members of the Chippewas' pitching staff—Sabol, Trent Howard, Zach Cooper and Dietrich Enns—have combined to win the award six times this season.

CMU begins MAC Tournament play tomorrow in Chillicothe, Ohio. The No. 2 seed Chippewas face No. 7 seed Western Michigan in the first round at 4 p.m. Each of CMU's tournament games can be heard live on WMHW-FM 91.5 and at CMUChippewas.com.
