MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan will face rival Western Michigan in the opening round of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament.
The No. 2 seed Chippewas and No. 7 seed Broncos will meet Wednesday at 4 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. The winner will advance to face either No. 3 Miami or No. 6 Toledo in the second round of the double elimination tournament.
CMU and Western Michigan split a pair of games in Kalamazoo earlier this month. The third game of the series was rained out.
CMU (29-25 overall, 17-9 MAC) earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament by virtue of winning its second straight MAC West Division title in 2011. The Chippewas took two of three games from Eastern Michigan during the regular season's final weekend to clinch the division title.
WMHW-FM 91.5 will carry each of CMU's games during the tournament. The radio broadcasts also will be streamed live for free through CMUChippewas.com.
