Lehnert Tosses Seven Shutout Innings to Keep Maroon Alive

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Strong pitching led the the Maroon team to a 3-0 victory Friday over the Gold to stave off elimination and force game six.

Sophomore Taylor Lehnert turned in a strong outing, giving up just three hits over seven scoreless innings. Senior Kenton San Miguel entered in the eighth and recorded the hold, while junior Matt Trowbridge got his second save of the fall.

After a Alex Borglin single snuck past the third basemen to start the bottom of the third, sophomore Logan Regnier doubled down the left field line. Adam Collins kicked off the scoring with a single up the middle to bring home Borglin. Two more runs would score in the inning, one coming from Dylan Goodwin getting hit by a pitch and the second on a walk to junior Tyler Huntey to give the Maroon a 3-0 lead.

The Maroon team failed to extend the lead, leaving 14 runners stranded on base. Three separate innings the Maroon had bases loaded each time and failed to get a run in.

Gold starter Jordan Foley lasted four innings giving up three runs on four hits. Braxton Markle relieved Foley and held the Maroon offense in check for three innings only allowing two hits and striking out three.

The Maroon Team will look to force a game seven on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
