Central Michigan head coach Steve Jaksa announced the signing of seven players, including four pitchers, to National Letters of Intent Wednesday.

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan head baseball coach Steve Jaksa has announced the signing of seven players to National Letters of Intent Wednesday.

Adam Collins (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy), Matt Constance (Canton, Mich./Birmingham Brother Rice), Jason Gamble (Walled Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Western), Dylan Goodwin (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Ranch), Taylor Lehnert (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), Jimmy McNamara (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) and Logan Regnier (Novi, Mich.Novi/Novi) became the newest Chippewas and will open up the 2012-13 season in the Maroon and Gold.

"All these guys are going to be impact players right away," said Jaksa. "With this particular class we did not bring in any project-type guys. One of the spots we knew we needed to shore up was our pitching staff and we were able to do that with this class.

Six of the seven kids all have a grade point average of 3.4 or better and all of them are above a 3.0. They all fit very well with what we expect from our student-athletes. Our team average is over a 3.0, so they will all fit right in academically."

See below for bios on the seven student-athletes.

Adam Collins
Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy

High School: Batted .330 as a junior before season was cut short due to injury ... played summer ball for Plainfield Hitmen for four seasons ... hit .436 with three home runs for Hitmen in summer of 2011 ...  high school coach was Jared Voss.

Coach Jaksa says: "Adam is a kid that has not played a lot of baseball, but is a very, very good athlete. He has all the tools that we look for in a middle infielder and from what we've seen he can hit as well. He is a plus runner and has a plus arm in the infield and should be able to help us."

Matt Constance
Right-Handed Pitcher
Canton, Mich./Birmingham Brother Rice HS

High School: No. 7 ranked player in Michigan according to MichiganBaseballProspects.org and No. 9 according to pgcrosschecker.org ... named No. 17 ranked player on Oakland Press Top 60 Players to Watch prior to junior season ... has played for Ann Arbor Travelers summer league team under coach Jordon Banfield ... high school coach is former Central Michigan player Bob Riker.

Coach Jaksa says: "Matt has been a kid we have been on for over a year. His velocity keeps getting better and better and he's a guy that throws in the high 80's and has a plus breaking ball. We are real excited about where he is and that we were able to get him to commit over the other options he had out there."

Jason Gamble
Right-Handed Pitcher
Walled Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Western HS

High School: No. 17 ranked player in Michigan according to MichiganBaseballProspects.org and No. 10 according to pgcrosschecker.org ... Named all-area and all-district following junior season ... went 6-1 with a 1.70 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 48.1 innings as a junior ... also batted .349 in junior season ... struck out 65 batters in 56.1 innings as a sophomore, while hitting eight home runs at the plate ... 2011 Perfect Game All-American honorable mention selection... four-year letter winner in baseball and football ... three-time all-conference selection in football ... also earned all-area and all-county honors in football in 2010 ... plays summer ball for Ann Arbor Travelers under coach Jordon Banfield.

Coach Jaksa says: "Jason is a big, strong, right-handed pitcher we have seen throw in the upper 80's. He's been very, very good and just needs to build some consistency. He has had a lot of good experience playing summer ball and is battle-tested in terms of what it will take to play at this level."

Dylan Goodwin
Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Ranch HS

High School: 2011 Perfect Game All-American honorable mention ... 2011 Arizona Classic All-Western United States Academic Team ... 2011 Inland Daily all-area selection ... first-team All-Hacienda League selection after batting .515 with an on-base percentage of .585 and slugging percentage of .788 ... San Gabriel region all-star ... three-year scholar athlete ... played for So Cal Destroyers under coach Wayne Goodwin from 2007-'10 ... played for San Gabriel Valley Arsenal under coach Mike Vierra from 2009-'11.

Coach Jaksa says: "Dylan is a California kid that has played for a couple different summer league teams that are very competitive. He's a catch, throw and hit guy with power. We have had a line of catchers that have been pretty good and Dylan will add to that line of productive players. He's a very sturdy kid and will do a great job of handling our pitching staff.

Taylor Lehnert
Right-Handed Pitcher
Schererville, Ind./Lake Central HS

High School: No. 11 ranked player in Indiana according to prepbaseballreport.com ... finished junior season with a 4-2 record and 2.85 ERA, striking out 44 batters in 34.1 innings ... has played summer ball for LIDS Indian Bulls, Pro Scout Midwest Dodgers, Hammond Seminoles and Hammond Post 168 ... named all-area honorable mention basketball player junior year ... head high school baseball coach is Jeff Sandor ... teammate of Central Michigan signee Jimmy McNamara.

Coach Jaksa says: "Taylor is a big, strong kid that can throw an upper 80's to lower 90's fastball. He is a very aggressive thrower that has a very good sinker. We have watched Taylor pretty closely as he was a heavily recruited kid. With the current pitchers we will be losing, he will have an opportunity to pitch for us right away."

Jimmy McNamara
Left-Handed Pitcher
Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS

High School: No. 20 ranked player in Indiana according to prepbaseballreport.com ... 2011 All-Indiana Top 20 Midwest Crossroads Baseball Series selection ... named all-state by Prep Baseball Report after going 7-1 with a 0.79 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched as a junior ... also earned All-Duneland Athletic Conference first-team honors in 2010 and 2011 as well as first-team all-area in 2011 by Post Tribune and NWI Times ... named to All-Indiana Top 90 in 2010 and 2011 by Crossroads Baseball Series ... played in Midwest Baseball Classic in 2010 and 2011 for Team Indiana ... two-time team captain ... teammate of Central Michigan signee Taylor Lehnert.

Coach Jaksa says: "Jimmy just kept getting better and better as we followed him. He has good movement on his ball and we really think that he will be a multiple pitch kid with good command. He will be able to step in and throw from the left side right away."

Logan Regnier
Outfielder/Right-Handed Pitcher
Novi, Mich./Novi HS

High School: No. 10 ranked player in Michigan according to MichiganBaseballProspects.org ... led team junior year with a .451 batting average, driving in 30 runs ... had nine assists in outfield and struck out 27 batters in 24 innings on the mound ... named first-team all-conference and all-area ... earned all-conference honorable mention honors as a sophomore ... plays summer ball for Michigan Bulls under coaches Bobby Marten and Frank Gallagher ... brother is redshirt freshman Nick Regnier.

Coach Jaksa says: "We had a lot of in-state competition to sign Logan, as we did with a lot of these guys. He's a guy that has an opportunity to be a two-way guy for us in playing the outfield and pitching. He has a really good arm and can run it upwards of 90 miles per hour. He has all those intangibles that you look for in a player."
