CMU Menís Basketball Announces 2013-14 Schedule

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan men’s basketball program announced on Tuesday its schedule for the 2013-14 season, including a full slate of home dates that will provide fans ample opportunity to pack McGuirk Arena and enjoy the young Chippewas’ up-tempo style of play.

“We are excited about the increased number of home games and the opportunity for our fans to see us as we continue to improve our team and build toward earning a postseason bid,” said second-year head coach Keno Davis.

"We are committed as a staff and as a program to developing a strong schedule and improving the quality of our opponents each and every year."

CMU will begin MAC play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when it welcomes Miami (Ohio) to Mount Pleasant, kicking off a 10-game conference schedule at McGuirk Arena. The Chippewas will also host MAC foes Eastern Michigan (Saturday, Jan. 18), Akron (Saturday, Jan. 25), Kent State (Wednesday, Feb. 5), Buffalo (Saturday, Feb. 8), Bowling Green (Wednesday, Feb. 19), Northern Illinois (Sunday, Feb. 23), Toledo (Tuesday, March 4) and rival Western Michigan (Friday & Saturday, March 7 & 8) this season.

The 2013-14 home non-conference schedule will be highlighted by CMU’s November tournament, which will feature match-ups against Montana State, Austin Peay and Cal State Northridge. Opportunities for the CMU student body to contribute to the game day atmosphere in McGuirk will also take place when the Chippewas host non-conference games against Manchester (Friday, Nov. 8), Pepperdine (Saturday, Nov. 16), Jacksonville State (Saturday, Nov. 30) and Marygrove (Friday, Jan. 3).

CMU basketball fans will get their first game action glimpse of the Chippewas on Monday, Oct. 28 when they play an exhibition contest versus Lake Superior State at McGuirk Arena.

CMU will also travel for MAC contests in 2014, visiting Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio in January, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Kent State and Eastern Michigan in February and Ball State in early March.

Central Michigan will face Bradley (Tuesday, Nov. 12), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Tuesday, Nov. 26), SIU Edwardsville (Saturday, Dec. 7), Dayton (Saturday, Dec. 14) and Jacksonville State (Tuesday, Dec. 17) on the road in non-conference action.

Davis returns a core of young and talented players for the 2013-14 campaign, including sophomore guard Chris Fowler, who broke the program’s freshman assist record and earned All-MAC Freshman Team honors last season. Also back are sophomore forwards Blake Hibbits, who averaged 8.9 points per game and led CMU with 66 three-pointers, and John Simons, who topped the Chippewas in rebounds with 151.
