MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan field hockey team recently finished second overall in the 2012 spring league with 11 points and a 3-1-2 record overall.

The league featured six other Division I field hockey programs, including Mid-American Conference foes Miami and Kent State, Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State of the Big Ten and Louisville of the Big East.

The Wolverine and Spartans claimed a share of the league title, each finishing with a 4-2 record overall.

The Chippewas, who opened their first four games without a loss, dropped their first match of the league to the Wolverines on April 14, 5-3.

The two teams were tied, 1-1, at halftime on a goal from sophomore Bailey McKeon assisted by freshman Cayleigh Immelman. The Maroon and Gold went up, 2-1, on another goal from McKeon in the second helf, but the Wolverines scored the next four goals to take a 5-2 lead. Immelman added an unassisted goal for the final 5-3 tally.

CMU bounced back in the final game of the spring, defeating Louisville, 2-1. The Chippewas went up, 2-0, in the first 10 minutes of the game on a pair of goals by Immelman and held on late after the Cardinals scored on a penalty corner late in the second half.

Immelman, the MAC Freshman of the Year in the fall, led the Chippewas with five goals and two assists in the spring, while McKeon finished with four goals and three assists.
