Addae and Wilson Sign NFL Free Agent Contracts

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Two of Central Michigan’s more decorated players in recent history, Jahleel Addae and Cody Wilson, have been signed to NFL free agents contracts. Addae, a two-time All-MAC safety, was inked by the San Diego Chargers while Wilson, a three-time All-MAC wide receiver, will stay close to home, signing with the Detroit Lions.

Addae and Wilson will join offensive tackle Eric Fisher, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Kansas City Chiefs, as Chippewas from the 2012 senior class to move on to the NFL.

A two-time CMU Defensive Player of the Year, Addae tied for the MAC lead last season with four interceptions. He also totaled 89 tackles, including 40 solos, had two sacks, and was second on the team with seven stops for a loss. Addae, a 2012 team co-captain, earned MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors for his standout play in the Senior Day win over Miami, as he recorded his second straight double digit tackle game, totaling 10, including seven solos and 1.5 for a loss, to go along with half of a sack, and an interception. A Jim Thorpe Award preseason watch list selection, Addae compiled 302 tackles, including 15 for a loss, and eight interceptions for his career.

In January, Addae showcased his skills against some of the nation’s top collegiate football talent and in front of NFL personnel at the East-West Shrine Game, the longest-running college all-star football game in the country.

In 2012, Wilson solidified his status as one of CMU’s all-time great receivers, finishing his brilliant career third in receptions (230) and fifth in receiving yards (2,729). The team co-captain led CMU with 74 receptions and extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 42, which ranked No. 2 in the nation at season’s end. In the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, Wilson caught 10 passes for 101 yards and the deciding touchdown. Wilson, a
marketing major with a 3.66 grade point average, earned Second Team Academic All-America honors in 2012 for the second consecutive year. Wilson also received CMU’s Kurt Dobronski Award, an honor presented annually by the seniors to a classmate who demonstrates great effort, intensity, and appreciation for the football program.

With Fisher, Addae, and Wilson, Central Michigan is represented by a total of 10 players in the NFL, also including All-Pro offensive tackle Joe Staley (San Francisco 49ers), Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers), linebacker Frank Zombo (Kansas City Chiefs), linebacker Nick Bellore (New York Jets), defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins (New York Giants), cornerback Josh Gordy (Indianapolis Colts), and offensive lineman Colin Miller (New England Patriots).
