Foley's Gem Gives CMU First Win of Season over Troy, 4-1

Mobile, Ala. - Junior Jordan Foley gave up just two hits and struck out a season-high eight batters to help Central Michigan earn its first win of the season over Troy Friday evening, 4-1.

Foley gave up just a single run on a solo home run by Matthew Howard in the bottom of the third, but it was just one his two hits allowed.

The Trojans' (3-2) lead didn't last long as the Chippewas (1-4) were able to get their offense going with key two-out hits in the top of the fourth inning.

After the first two batters failed to reach base, junior Nick Regnier walked and classmate Cody Leichman singled to left field to put a pair of runners on base. Junior Tyler Huntey gave the Chippewas the lead with a triple to the gap in right center and came around to score on a single by sophomore Logan Regnier to give CMU a 3-1 advantage.

The elder Regnier once again sparked the Maroon and Gold's offense with a single to lead off the sixth and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. After a sacrifice bunt by Leichman moved him to third, the younger Regnier came up clutch again with a double to left center to plate his brother and push the Chippewas' lead to 4-1.

Foley retired 11 straight before Garrett Pitts doubled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but the junior induced a lineout by Trevin Hall to end the threat and protect the CMU lead. He again worked out of a jam in the seventh when an error allowed the Trojans to extend the inning with men on first and third, but a whif by Nick Masonia ended the inning.

Sophomore reliever Jason Gamble came on in the eighth and quickly got a pair of ground outs, but walked the following two batters. Fortunately, Gamble induced his third ground out of the frame to hold the Trojans at bay.

Junior Matt Trowbridge entered in the ninth and worked around a one-out walk by inducing a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to earn his first save of the season.

Nick Regnier finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, whle Logan Regnier went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Huntey drove in a pair as well.

The Chippewas and Trojans will resume their series at Riddle-Pace field tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Senior Pat Kaminska will get the start in game one with freshman Nick Deeg toeing the rubber in the night cap.
