Mount Pleasant, Mich. — The Central Michigan volleyball program held its annual Maroon and Gold scrimmage inside McGuirk Arena Saturday, with the Maroon squad coming out on top, 3-1.
The scrimmage provided the Chippewas their first live action of the 2013 season as program alumnae were back to provide healthy competition.
Sophomore middle blocker Angie White led the Chippewas with 14 kills, adding three blocks for the maroon. Senior Kelly Maxwell led the way for the maroon squad dishing out 26 assists while adding one block and two kills. Middle blocker Danielle Gotham and sophomore Kalle Mulford added 10 and eight kills respectively. Newcomer Danie Thompson dished out 12 assists while adding three kills and two digs on the afternoon.
Five newcomers saw their first action in the Maroon and Gold Saturday afteroon as junior Danielle Thompson and freshmen Andrea Gothard, Melissa Fuchs, Jessica Meichtry and Taylor Robertson were able to continue their acclimation process with their teammates.
Saturday also gave alumnae an opportunity to step back on the court as Courtney Kersten, Sarah Warner Conklin, Kaelly Janisch, Erika Neumann, Kelsey Detweiler, Samantha Brawley and Lindsey Dulude joined the competition.
Central Michigan will open its regular season next Friday at the Oakland Invitational versus the host Golden Grizzlies at 7 p.m.
