CMU Faces No. 24 Maryland and Yale on Sunday in Road Tri-Meet
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Coming off just two days rest, the Central Michigan gymnastics team will road trip to the east coast to take on host No. 24 Maryland and Yale in a tri-meet on Sunday. The competition, which is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m., will take place at the Comcast Center in College Park.

On Thursday night, CMU won its third straight dual meet, downing Alaska Anchorage, 195.725-191.775, in McGuirk Arena. The Chippewas won all four events as a team, taking the top five spots in the standings of three. Individually, junior Brittany Petzold placed first in the uneven bars, earned a share of the floor exercise title, and captured the all-around crown to lead CMU. Sophomore Taylor Noonan scored a 9.900 to win the balance beam, freshman Kirsten Petzold claimed her second vault title of the season, posting a 9.875, and sophomore Halle Moraw tied for first in the floor exercise.

Maryland lost for the first time since February 2 last weekend, falling to Auburn, 196.825-195.300, in Alabama. The defeat was the just the second of the season for the Terrapins. Maryland is led by nationally ranked competitors Katy Dodds (No. 3, floor exercise), Stephanie Giameo (No. 4, balance beam), and Ally Krikorkian (No. 14, floor exercise). The Terrapins have a regional qualifying score of 195.435 with a season-high score of 196.175.

Yale is coming off a fourth place finish at the New Hampshire Invitational. The Bulldogs scored a 190.925 to finish behind host UNH, Towson, and Brown. Yale has recorded wins over Ithaca, West Chester, and Springfield College in 2013, posting high score of 191.325 for the season.

CMU owns a 5-0 combined all-time record versus Maryland and Yale, topping the Terrapins three times and the Bulldogs twice. The Chippewas are 5-4 on the road in 2013.

CMU will return home to Mount Pleasant next weekend, hosting MAC rival Eastern Michigan on Senior Day. The Chippewas will clash with the Eagles in their regular season finale on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. in McGuirk Arena. Seniors Kari Dieffenderfer, Emily LaFontaine, and Meaghan McWhorter will be honored for their career contributions in a special ceremony following the meet.
