MOUNT PLEASANT - Freshman Tori Garcia was named Mid-American Conference Co-Specialist of the Week Monday, the league office announced.
Garcia revamped her vault routine last week and it paid dividends in Sunday's meet at Northern Illinois as she posted a 9.8 for the first time her career. The freshman led off the second rotation for the Chippewas and provided a spark for the Maroon and Gold as they went on to win their second-straight MAC regular season title behind a season-best overall team score of 194.950.
The award is the first of Garcia's career and marks the eighth time this season a CMU student-athlete has earned one of the conference's two weekly honors.
The Chippewas are off until March 9 when they travel to Seattle, Wash., for a tri-meet versus Washington and San Jose State.
