MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to South Bend, Ind. for the 58th Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.
Both teams will compete in the gold division, which is comprised of 26 teams on the women’s side and 24 on the men’s.
The Chippewas enter Friday’s race ranked in the top-15 within the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region, with the men ranked 14th and the women ranked 15th.
Nine members of the men and women’s squad will race at the varsity level, with a handful of student-athletes competing at the JV level.
The format will be a 5k for the women, and a 5-mile run for the men with the top-five runners being scored. This will be the Chippewas second scored meet of the season.
Junior and 2012 First Team All-MAC selection Kyle Stacks will appear in his first race of the season.
“On the men’s side, with the addition of Stacks it will be a work in progress for the next two meets, Kaczor said. “You can see the guys are feeling better knowing their team is coming into full-force. I think after what they did at Griak they are ready to prove something at the Notre Dame meet.”
Senior Krista Parks is looking to lead the women as a top-finisher for the fourth consecutive race this season.
“On the women’s side we are looking to try and improve upon what we did this weekend at Griak,” associate head coach Matt Kaczor said. “The girls are looking pretty good, we are rested so they are ready.”
The women are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time with the men to follow at 2:45 p.m.
