Olson Announces Addition of Danielle Thompson to 2013 Roster

MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan head volleyball coach Erik Olson has announced the addition of Danielle Thompson from Illinois Central College to his 2013 roster.

Thompson joins the Chippewas with two years of eligibility remaining and will provide depth at the setter position.

“We are very excited about the addition of Danielle to our program,” head coach Erik Olson said. “Danielle comes from a very strong program at Illinois Central College and will bring a strong skill set as a setter that will add depth behind All-MAC selection Kelly Maxwell. She has the ability to run our offense efficiently and a strong ability to attack at the net.”

Thompson ranked 10th in the country last season at with 1,221 assists for 16th-ranked Illinois Central College, while also recording 118 kills, 277 digs and 77 blocks. She finished her career at ICC with 2,100 assists after dishing out 889 in her freshman season.

While at Blue Ridge High School in Farmer City, Ill., Thompson set the career assists record and was named the Blue Ridge Team MVP while also earning Champaign/Urbana News-Gazette All-Area first-team honors. She was also a Honorable Mention All-State selection.

Thompson lettered four times at Blue Ridge and finished her career with 1,1199 assists, 545 digs, 437 kills, 148 aces and 114 blocks.

“Coach Sue Sinclair runs a great program at Illinois Central and has prepared Danielle to play at the next level,” Olson said.

The addition of Thompson completes the 2013 recruiting class which also features Melissa Fuchs (Provo, Utah), Jessica Meichtry (Brooksfield, Wis.), Andrea Gothard (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Taylor Robertson (Midland, Mich.)

The Chippewas went 16-14 in 2013, including a 9-7 record in the Mid-American Conference and a third-place finish in the MAC West to earn the No. 6 seed in the MAC Tournament. CMU returns four All-MAC selections, including Maxwell, who ranked No. 1 in the MAC in assists and No. 11 nationally.
