Ypsilanti, Mich.- Chelsea Sundberg's two-hitter led Central Michigan Softball to a 3-0 victory at Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon to split the series. Sophomore CarolAnn Sexauer hit her fifth homerun of the season, second of the series, to lead the offense.
Sundberg pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and walking none. She earned her fourth victory and leads Central Michigan with 49 strikeouts this year.
CMU scored first thanks to a two-out, solo homerun by Sexauer in the fourth inning. The Chippewas (13-11,1-1 MAC) then took control in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs. Freshman Katelyn Rentschler opened the inning with her sixth double of the season followed by Cory DeLamielleure's second homerun of the season.
Sundberg closed the game out with two groundouts and a strike out.
Sexauer finished the game 2-3, and now has 19 RBIs on the season to lead the Chippewas. Rentschler and DeLamielleure both went 2-3 at the plate with an extra base hit.
Nellie Coquillard and Amanda Stanton each finished 1-3 at the plate to post Eastern Michigan only two hits of the game. Lauren Wells started in the circle for the Eagles, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up four hits. Lindsay Rich closed the game with two strikeouts and gave up two runs.
The Chippewas will host University of Detroit Mercyfor a doubleheader on April 3 for their home opener at the newly renovated Margo Jonker Stadium. First-pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
